Gov. DeSantis just reaffirmed his goal of making Florida the first state in the country to eliminate property taxes on homesteaded properties while continuing to forgo a state income tax. The plan, he said, is to “completely” phase out these taxes for primary residences.
Currently, commercial leases are subject to a 2% state sales tax. plus local option taxes of 1%–1.5%, resulting in a combined rate of 3%–3.5%. Florida lawmakers just passed HB 7031, a bill that—if signed by Governor Ron DeSantis—would fully repeal both the state and local portions of the tax, rather than just reduce them further.
