Broward Development Wave: Hundreds Of Homes, Apartments

housing startsDevelopment is revving into high gear in Broward County, with hundreds of homes and apartments planned, in addition to an assisted living facility.

Those were some of the projects on the agenda as the Broward County Commission returned from its summer break for a meeting yesterday. More than a dozen development approvals were to be decided.

Here’s a look at some of the biggest proposals.

Golf course would become 585 homes

Sample Road Investments want to turn a 94.4-acre golf course in Coral Springs that’s been unused for years into 585 homes.

It’s located on the north side of Sample Road between University Drive and Northwest 84th Ave., behind the La Quinta Inn. The golf course was damaged by hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 and has been in disrepair.

Sample Road Investments is managed by Louis Capano Jr. in Wilmington, Del.

Apartments in Davie

An apartment complex with 240 units is planned by Davie Acres LLC, which is managed by Albert J. Angel and Jeffrey Rosa. It would be on a 15-acre site on the west side of South University Drive in the 5400 block, which is just north of the Super Target.

Plant nursery could become assisted living facility

Also in Davie, a 200-bed assisted living facility has been proposed on the site of a 10.7-acre plant nursery.

Davie ALF Associates, an affiliate of Hollywood-based MG3 Developer Group, wants to build the long-term care facility on the former Naugle’s Nursery it bought for $3.2 million last year. The site is at 8201 Stirling Road.

Miramar to get 158 homes

CC Fox Craft LLC, headed by Coral Gables developer James Carr, wants to build 158 single-family homes in the second phase of its Foxcraft Homes project.

The 21.6-acre site is on the west side of Douglas Road just north of the Florida Turnpike Extension. There would be 144 three-bedroom homes and 14 four-bedroom homes.

Hopefully for Miramar residents, the congestion problems on the Turnpike Extension there will be resolved before these homes are occupied.

Plans for 50 townhouses

In Coconut Creek, a 5.5-acre site could be developed into 50 townhouses.

Klemow at 5150 Hillsboro LLC, which is managed by Jordan Klemow, is the applicant for the site on Hillsboro Boulevard.

Hillsboro Technology Park, and more

In other items on the agenda that were also covered, Butters Construction & Development plans a massive business park, City Furniture wants to add a large warehouse near its Tamarac headquarters and a car dealership in Coconut Creek is eyeing expansion.
