Fort Lauderdale Will Be Among Most Popular Spring Break Destinations Of 2017

Fort Lauderdale is among the Top 5 spring break destinations this year, according to a survey by Allianz Global Assistance USA.

The travel insurance provider reviewed more than 4 million trips booked through its partners in the travel industry and found the most popular domestic and international destinations. The Spring Break season runs Feb. 24-April 9.

Fort Lauderdale is ranked fourth among domestic spring break destinations, with 4.1 percent of trips planned. That should be good news for local hotel operators. The top three cities are Orlando (8.6 percent), Las Vegas (5.3 percent) and Phoenix (4.4 percent).

Rounding out the Top 10 domestic locations are Los Angeles (4 percent), Fort Myers (3.9 percent), Denver (3.7 percent), Salt Lake City (3.4 percent), San Francisco (3.1 percent) and Tampa (3 percent).

“The review showed a good mix of beach, skiing and well-known destinations attracting Americans for spring break this year,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA.

The most popular international spring break locations are Cancun, Mexico (16.7 percent), Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (5.3 percent) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (4.8 percent). Given that South Florida is the gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, the region’s airports might be busy over the next month with connecting flights to those locations.
